Gerald Paddio, vs. Cleveland Cavaliers; Seattle Supersonics; Indiana Pacers; Washington Bullets/Washing Ton Wizards; Tig Insurance; New York Knickerbockers; Chicago Rockers; Las Vegas Slam/ Chicago Skyliners; Travelers Indemnity Company,

This case involves a dispute between Gerald Paddio, a professional basketball player, and several employers he worked for from 1988 to 2006. Paddio filed a claim for a cumulative industrial injury and the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) found that the WCAB had subject matter jurisdiction over the claim under Labor Code sections 3600.5(a) and 5305. The WCAB also deferred all other issues for determination in the first instance at the trial level. The WCAB denied the defendant’s petition for reconsideration, finding that the evidence of hiring in California supported WCAB subject matter jurisdiction over the claim.
