JUAN CORTEZ vs. STATE OF CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS AND REHABILITATION Legally Uninsured STATE COMPENSATION INSURANCE FUND
(Salinas District Office) This case involves Juan Cortez, an employee of the State of California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, who was injured while on the job. The State of California and the State Compensation Insurance Fund (collectively Defendant) filed a Petition for Reconsideration of the 4/9/14 Amended Joint Findings and Award, which awarded permanent disability indemnity to Cortez based on the opinions of the Agreed Medical Examiner. The Petition was denied by the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board, as the doctor's report constituted substantial evidence regarding Cortez's disability and there was no evidence submitted to the contrary.
